Briffa Celebrates – The City of London Distillery and Bar

Catching your eye as soon as you turn into Bride Lane from Fleet Street the distinctive dark green door of City of London Distillery and Bar invites you in. I am with my colleague Christine ‘never had a gin in my life’ Zembrzuski to see Jonathan Clarke proprietor and gin maker extraordinaire. Jonathan is a great character and pleasure to work with and COLD is a top meeting venue for us. The view of the copper stills of the distillery through full height plate glass from the bar is a spectacle and transports you to the time of the 18th century Gin Craze when distilleries were common and the love of Gin at its height. While our relationship with Gin may have changed much since then – City of London Distillery and Bar is a place not to be missed for a fan of ‘all things gin’. Jonathan treats us to one of his famous Christopher Wren G&T’s followed by a ‘Square Mile’. Christine starts having problems focusing on the niceties of trade mark law. While we talk, the wonderful feint fragrant aroma of gin is ever present. Our work done we leave as the offices start emptying and COLD starts filling. There’s a group of 24 expected for ‘The Gin Experience’ a little later where you distil and take home your own bottle. Jonathan Clarke clearly loves what he does and his enthusiasm pervades the whole atmosphere. Thank you Jonathan for your hospitality. This is the place for your business meetings ladies!
