War Child was founded in 1993 following the conflict in the former Yugoslavia, its aim to provide immediate material aid to children of all ages and ethnic background. As War Child grew so did the projects, their invaluable work includes child protection, emergency relief and educational and social welfare programmes.
War Child has since spread its work to other war zones around the world. Continuing its work in the Balkans, War Child now has operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The statistics of the number of children who are affected by war globally are startling, in the last 10 years 1.5 million children have lost their lives, 4.5 million have been disabled and millions more have to live with the trauma of conflict and its aftermath.
This Saturday is the World Day for Innocent Children, Victims of Aggression. War Child have undertaken months of research with children in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan to view the on-going consequences of war on children actually through the eyes of children themselves. The results of this research has been taken into schools in the UK where the children have formulated their own qualified position and put forward their own call to action. Briffa are delighted for the opportunity to support this very worthy charity and and share it with our clients. We hope that by giving something back we can in some way help make a difference.
