A Seminar by Briffa Brand Protection in China - Why You Should Care

Coinciding by chance with the BBC's "China Week" Briffa held a Seminar at the Law Society in London on 8th March covering Brand Protection in China and setting out the reasons why intellectual property rights owners looking to do business in China should care.

Firstly, Briffa touched on the problem and volume of counterfeit goods being produced in China and secondly the overall problem this presents to brand owners. Briffa went on to advise how businesses can and should protect themselves and what routes are open to them should they find they have a problem in China.

Our guest speaker Pauline Amphlett partner of LingoLAB, provided a snapshot of key brand and naming issues in China. Pauline covered the key linguistic issues, cultural differences and provided some great examples of well-known international brands and explained how they'd dealt with the challenge of representing their brands in China.
